Fridge not cooling but the light works
The cabinet has power but the sealed system is not running. Usually a failed start relay, a burnt compressor winding, or a refrigerant leak. The cheapest of these is the relay, so we test in that order.
A fridge that stops cooling in Dubai costs you a full load of food within hours, which is why refrigerator breakdowns get emergency priority from us. Naveed Electronics has repaired single-door, double-door, side-by-side and built-in refrigerators and freezers across Dubai since 1996 — on site, in one visit wherever possible, with a written warranty on the parts we fit.
Find your symptom below. Each one tells you the usual cause, so you know roughly what you are dealing with before you call.
The cabinet has power but the sealed system is not running. Usually a failed start relay, a burnt compressor winding, or a refrigerant leak. The cheapest of these is the relay, so we test in that order.
Almost always a blocked evaporator or a failed defrost system, so cold air never reaches the fridge compartment. Often a fan or defrost heater, not a compressor.
The auto-defrost cycle has stopped. A defrost heater, thermostat or timer has failed and frost is choking the airflow.
A blocked defrost drain, a split water-inlet hose, or a door seal that no longer closes properly and is letting humid Dubai air condense inside.
Clicking every few minutes usually means the compressor is trying to start and failing — a relay or capacitor fault. Attend to this quickly, because repeated failed starts damage the compressor.
Dirty condenser coils, a failing door seal, or low refrigerant. The unit is working continuously and still not reaching temperature, which drives your electricity bill up sharply.
Everything below is handled in-house by our own technicians, never subcontracted out.
Condenser coils clogged with dust. The coils at the back or underneath reject heat from the sealed system, and when they are coated the compressor cannot shed heat. The fridge runs constantly, cools poorly, and eventually the compressor overheats and fails. This is entirely preventable with a clean once or twice a year, and it is the first thing we check on any ‘not cooling properly’ call.
There is a logical order to this and skipping it costs you money. We check power and thermostat, then listen for the compressor attempting to start, then test the start relay and capacitor, then check condenser cleanliness and fan operation, then check for airflow blockage from a frost build-up, and only then test system pressures for a refrigerant leak. A technician who jumps straight to ‘you need gas’ without this sequence is guessing.
In Dubai's humidity a perished door gasket lets warm moist air in continuously. The result is frost build-up, a compressor that never switches off, condensation around the door frame, and a noticeably higher DEWA bill. A gasket replacement is one of the cheapest repairs we do and often solves several symptoms at once.
Villas across Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches and Emirates Hills are fitted with integrated European fridges from Bosch, Siemens, Liebherr and Ariston. These need careful removal from the cabinetry, and the door-hinge and furniture-door mounting must be reset correctly afterwards or the door will not seal. We handle these regularly and carry the right tools for cabinet-mounted units.
We do not publish a fixed price list, because quoting a number before seeing the fault would be guesswork. Here is what actually moves the price, so you can judge whether a quote you are given is fair.
For refrigerators, a door seal, thermostat, defrost heater or start relay is the cheap end and covers most 'not cooling' calls. Fan motors are mid-range. A compressor or sealed-system leak is the expensive end, and on a fridge over about ten years old we usually advise replacement.
How it works: you get a realistic range on the phone, then a fixed quote after diagnosis. Nothing is opened, ordered or charged until you approve that figure.
Refrigerator failures are treated as emergencies because food spoils within hours in Dubai. For most of Dubai we attend the same day, usually within two to four hours of your call.
Often yes, but not always. If the fault is a relay, thermostat, fan, defrost heater or door seal, repair is clearly worth it. If the compressor has failed on a unit over about ten years old, replacement is usually the better spend and we will say so rather than sell you the repair.
The large majority of fridge repairs are completed at your home in a single visit. We only remove a unit to the workshop when the work needs a bench, and then we collect and return it ourselves.
Yes. Water inside the cabinet is usually a blocked defrost drain, and water underneath is usually a drain-pan or hose fault. Both are straightforward and inexpensive to fix once diagnosed correctly.
Yes. We work on integrated European units fitted into villa kitchen cabinetry, including Bosch, Siemens, Liebherr, Ariston and Zanussi, and we reset the furniture door and hinges correctly on refitting.
Ninety days on both parts and labour. If the same fault returns within that period we come back and fix it at no cost.
They do amazing job with my Miele washing machine repair in Downtown. Best service, quick response. Ahmed came, diagnosed the problem in a minute and fixed my washing machine. Highly recommended.
It is amazing service. Just in 30 minutes all issues were repaired at a good price. I recommend this for cooking gas service.
Ahmed did my Miele washing machine repair in Jumeirah Park. Excellent and very professional service. I'm very happy. Highly recommend.
Call the workshop directly and speak to a technician, not an operator. Most repairs are booked in under two minutes.
