How to avoid the next breakdown
Cleaning the drain pump filter every few months would prevent a large share of the callouts we attend. It sits behind a small hatch at the bottom front of most front-loaders.
- Empty pockets before washing. Coins, hairpins and small socks are what we find jamming pumps every week.
- Clean the pump filter regularly. Put a shallow tray under the hatch, because water will come out.
- Run a maintenance wash. Dubai’s water leaves limescale on the heating element and hoses. Machines over three years old with no descaling often stop mid-cycle.
- Remove the transit bolts on a new machine. Leaving them in causes violent shaking on the first spin.
- Act on a roaring spin. It means the bearings are failing, and early repair is far cheaper.
